The Porter-Billups Leadership Academy (PBLA) is a center operating under Regis University. Together we have remained committed to our mission: creating leaders in service of others. Every day, you – our family of donors – make this possible.
Porter-Billups Leadership Academy (PBLA) students come to the Academy on Regis University's northwest campus for three-weeks, every summer, for seven years at no cost to the students and their families. During their time with us, we are teaching these students how to address life challenges and become leaders in their communities. After successful completion of the Academy, students that qualify for admittance to Regis University are provided scholarships for tuition and fees.
PBLA alumni that attend Regis University are now eligible to apply for the Walter V. Springs Memorial Endowment Scholarship. Walter Springs attended Regis University in 1940, was known for his kindness and sense of humor, was a boxer, and was a fullback when Regis had a football team. He came from a humble family and had to take partial scholarships and work part-time jobs to pay for his tuition. He was faced with some of the same life challenges as our PBLA students face today. He joined the Army before finishing college to help the United States fight in World War II. Sadly, in 1942 Sergeant Walter Springs was shot and killed a few miles from his Army base where he was about to report for officer training.
PBLA is proud to help keep Sergeant Walter Springs memory alive through this endowed scholarship. Our PBLA alum will have the opportunity to learn about Walter Springs and what he stood for in his life. Then, they will have the opportunity to reflect on their life adversities, and how they have taken steps to overcome them. The scholarship will be awarded to the student that demonstrates they have the Walter Springs Spirit.

Your investment to the PBLA empowers our students to become alumni who positively impact and change their local and global communities. All contributions to the PBLA are tax deductible as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) gift.
Planned Giving
​
The student sponsorship program supports the students attending the leadership program at Regis University every year. It takes $1,500 to put one student through the program each year. A student must complete 7 years and graduate in order to be eligible for the scholarship program. We are asking you to make a 1 to 7-year commitment of $50 to $5,000 or more to fund students in the Academy’s yearly leadership program. Your tax deductible contribution under Regis’ 501(c)(3) will go directly to the PBLA operating fund to support students in the program.
